In the light of our recent church history, change is disturbing to anyone. Lest some may have some wrong impressions, it is important that we clarify this matter. This change has nothing to do with doctrine at all, but simply a matter of corporate name. Also, we are not changing from one religious corporation (or affiliation) into another group, but just a modification of our own existing corporate name. Why?
United Church of God, an International Association (name of our mother organization in the U.S) in 1999, produced and ratified a body of governing documents called “Rules of Association.” This governing document among others, for legal purposes defines that the name: “United Church of God, an International Association” be used exclusively by our mother organization. All other affiliates in each nation should append the name of their country accordingly. (Lawyers and those knowledgeable with law will immediately recognize the implication and importance of this little piece of legislation.)
Therefore, there is a need for us to modify our corporate name which was registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in early 1996 to accommodate this ruling. After much consideration and deliberation, it has been decided that we adopt the name: “United Church of God – RP” (which stands for Republic of the Philippines).
