One of the most important events in the Work of God in the Philippines took place when the Philippine elders and wives, along with Mr. David Baker, senior pastor of the Philippine work, met at the scenic Waterfront Insular Hotel in Davao City on July 17.
The meeting started at 9:00 am with presentations by the employees of the Church on their respective responsibilities. First to present was Daniel Macaraeg who mentioned that he had been assisting his father in his work since 1999. He handles the weekly Bible studies for the youth in Davao, works for the publication of the United News Philippines, and attends to the accounting and subsidies of the Church. Second to give his report is Richard Macaraeg. Richard is responsible for the success of the media services and has been maintaining the UCG Web site in the Philippines since 2001. Third to share his responsibility was Charles Macaraeg. He is in charge of the mailing operations of the Church, attending to the needs of all the many subscribers. These contributions by the Macaraegs in the work of the Church are very much appreciated by all.
In the afternoon, the discussion focused on the subject of the National Office for the Church. After much deliberation taken among the elders, it was decided that the office will have a transitional period.
The following is a portion of the announcement regarding the decision by our Senior Pastor:
“On Sunday, July 17th the National Council met in Davao to discuss various issues facing the work here in the Philippines. One important matter that was discussed is the location of the National Office. After careful consideration, we unanimously decided to locate the National Office in Davao for an initial period of approximately two years. During this two-year period we are planning to train individuals from various areas of the Philippines to help with the work of the Church. As we go through this two-year period the National Council will continue to assess ways in which the National Office can best serve the needs of the Church through functions, personnel, and location.
I have instructed Daniel Macaraeg to immediately begin the search for potential office space in Davao. Once the National Council has selected the office space, it is our hope that the transition and setup of the National Office can occur as soon as possible.
I have discussed the future organization of the National Office with many of the National Council members. I will try to serve as National Office manager assisted by Daniel Macaraeg. Once again, we will continually assess if this proposed structure will best serve the needs of the Church. If it proves to be ineffective, it will be changed.
I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on the decisions that we have made and solicit your prayers as we embark upon this endeavor.”
