On December 3 the Philippine ministry gathered at the Insular Hotel for a ministerial conference which also served as our annual general meeting of the United Church of God, AIA Pilipinas. Senior Pastor for Asia, David Baker, welcomed all those present and expressed his appreciation for the service of the ministry and their wives. After a few introductory comments regarding the importance of working together, the first item discussed was a follow-up discussion on the Asian Leadership Conference that was held in Davao July 16-19. Mr. Baker encouraged the pastors to consider implementing a Spokesman/Graduate/Leadership Club. The format and structure can be modified to suit the needs and resources of each area. This is a format that has been followed for many decades in the Church and has born wonderful fruit.
The ministry then considered some statistics regarding the work in the Philippines. In regard to Good News subscribers (Nov/Dec issue), the office mailed 7,703 Good News magazines to subscribers in the Philippines and 6,025 to subscribers in the rest of Asia.
Next the ministry considered the need for a centralized accounting system for the work in the Philippines (see Editorial for more details). This system will begin in January 2007. The location of the National Office was the next issue discussed. The initial decision regarding the location of the National Office directed that the office be located in Davao City for a period of two years while the ministry considered a more permanent location. After having an opportunity to view the current location and operation of the National Office, it was decided that the office would remain in Davao indefinitely with the understanding that the location of the National Office can change if or when the needs of the church change.
Other subjects discussed at the ministerial meeting were the internship program, the location of summer camp (United Youth Camp 2007 will be held at Eden Nature Park) and a statistical look at attendees and possible attendees, festival assistance, baptismal counseling, and various church policies. Mr. Baker stated, “I would like to express my appreciation to all the elders and their wives as well as our National Office staff for their tremendous service and sacrifice as they seek to serve God’s people in the Philippines.” UNA |
