The Sri Lankan Congregation

We are a small congregation here in Sri Lanka of 11 people; two senior citizens, six adults, and three children. We are hoping to grow bigger through the blessings of God. We assemble every week at the home of Mr. L.E. Vanheer, where God has provided us with a large hall and quiet and serene surroundings. Each week we view a sermon video from the Home Office. We share our lunch after services and then discuss biblical and Christian living topics that we have studied during the week. This is followed by tea at 3 p.m. and we continue our fellowship until 5 p.m.

Recently we printed a UCG brochure offering free literature, and distributed quite a few of them, and are looking forward to hearing from those who would want to request the free literature offered. We did receive two immediate replies, which made us very happy.

A challenge that is sometimes faced by the brethren is a conflict with work and the Sabbath. Some employers are very unsympathetic regarding this conflict. Also Sri Lanka has faced unrest for more than two decades and this has adversely affected our economy.

This will be our fourth Feast of Tabernacles with the UCG and we are hoping that like the previous two years, brethren from outside of Sri Lanka will want to come and celebrate the Feast with us, as the rates offered to overseas brethren are very attractive. It is so very encouraging and fulfilling to meet and interact with brethren from all over the world. We read of happy times and sometimes sad times in the United News concerning our brethren overseas, and we thank God for His blessings for the good times, and pray to Him for His intervention to make the sadness into gladness. We continually pray for the success and the safety of God’s inspired servants, and also for all God’s children worldwide.
