United Youth Camp 2007 Update

Most members know that the United Church of God sponsors an annual United Youth Camp which is the major activity designed to address the needs and challenges of our youths. With less than two months to go, we need to begin focusing on some specifics.

Theme lends focus to the camp

Through the years, the focus of activities has in part been dictated by the theme for that particular year. Last year the theme was “God’s Special Forces: Fight the Good Fight!” And it was a great success! What about this year?

Prior to making a decision on the theme, we first listed the challenges facing our teens, and what would be the best way to address them. Also, regarding the theme, we evaluated based on our published criteria each of the 10 theme ideas submitted to us.

After much deliberation, we unanimously agreed on: “Remember True North!” as the most unique and appropriate theme for campers to do at camp and remember even after camp. True North is a metaphor for looking steadfastly to God for help and guidance, whose throne is on the north (which even Satan knew and attempted a take over, Isaiah 14:13). It is also represented by the North Star which among all heavenly bodies stays firmly fixed in its position even before the first humans ever walked this earth. This theme will be further expounded in camp activities, and in the interactive Christian Living Classes. We have many exciting ideas being prepared!

Updated Camp Dates

As usual, UYC will again be held at the mountain cool Eden Nature Park in Davao City. However, due to certain circumstances, UYC dates this year will be as follows:

Staff arrives May 6 to prepare and train for camp.
Campers arrive May 13 for camp activities.
Everyone leaves May 20 as the scheduled camp departure date.

How to Apply

All interested applicants (whether as Staff or Camper) should now seriously begin planning for UYC. Request or download from our UCG Web site (http://www.ucg.org.ph) an Application Form and submit completed form through your Church Pastor, who will write an endorsement. Meanwhile, start some physical fitness program, and at the same time build up funds to be able to pay for your camp fees and take care of other personal needs. If you have any problems on finances, counsel with your pastor to see what can be done. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the Camp Director thru cell phone # 0918-919-4346, landline # +63 (82) 241-0150, or his e-mail address at ed_macaraeg@ucg.org. We eagerly look forward to seeing you in camp! UNA
