Davao Members Hold Year-End Outing

DAVAO CITY—The members of the Davao City congregation had an enjoyable year-end activity once again. It has been three years since the last outing. Unlike the previous ones, this time it was held at GSP Camp in Toril last December 26-27, 2007.

Since there was a four-day seminar-workshop for the Mindanao leaders prior to the outing, it was planned to utilize the same site for the activity. A simple overnight camp-out preferably in tents with budget meals was planned to economize and lessen expenses, with the main aim of bonding and fellowshipping among members in a different setting apart from church services.

The brethren started arriving after lunch on the 26th while the Mindanao leaders departed. Late afternoon activities included badminton for young men and children while the ladies helped in the kitchen preparing for dinner.

Since it rained that night, everyone was assigned to stay in the dorms instead of tents.

A sumptuous buffet was set with a variety of goat dishes including caldereta, kilawin, paklay, etc. A variety of fruits were served as well. Every one was surprised because it was supposed to be a simple meal, yet it turned out to be special—thanks to the generosity of some of our brethren who contributed.

After the delightful meal, an animated musical movie entitled Prince of Egypt was played and projected on screen. It showed the life of Moses and his ordeal in leading the Israelites out of Egypt, a story found in the book of Exodus. Every one seemed to enjoy the movie, not only the young ones but those “once young” as well. After that, some of the young adults stayed up to fellowship.

The following morning was sunny, a nice opportunity for some members to test their accuracy in air-gun shooting, headed by Mr. Edmond Macaraeg. One of our members who belonged to a group of professional hunters in the city brought his sophisticated and professional air-rifle with telescopic sight.

A healthy breakfast started the day. After that, the member gathered in a circle and each one was given the opportunity to relate their experiences on how they found God’s truth and eventually came into God’s Church. Each was given two minutes to talk but some stories were interesting that it went longer. Everybody participated in and enjoyed the activity. It was very profitable as it helped us to know and understand even more the uniqueness of God’s calling in each one of us.

The sharing lasted up to lunch time. Spaghetti was served while the activity continued. We were also encouraged to think of plans for the congregation in 2008. The activity ended with a prayer led by Mr. Edmond D. Macaraeg, pastor of the Mindanao congregations, thanking God for the blessings and praying for the work in God’s Church that He may continually bless our efforts to carry on with the work we are commissioned to do.

Indeed, God’s blessing was truly evident during the activity. He has not only filled us with physical blessings but He has also enriched us spiritually. We look forward to another activity with our fellow brethren in God’s Church.
