| It was the month of December, and there was such a distinct and yet comfortable coldness in the crisp air. For the UCG-Manila congregation, it was time to hold the much-anticipated annual year-end congregation outing!
The year-end outing was once again held at the congregational favorite Blusyl Hot Spring Resort in Bucal, Calamba, Laguna last December 28-29. Calamba City is famous for the numerous hot spring resorts as it is geographically located on the northern slopes of Mt. Makiling, a dormant volcano. The venue provided some 91 brethren from the Manila congregation with a relaxing overnight escape, in the cool December climate. The brethren enjoyed the company of one another while fully utilizing the adequate amenities of the resort such as air-conditioned rooms, shared dining hall, cooking and barbecuing areas, small “kubos” or nipa hut stations, and the kiddy and adult warm-water swimming pools. The first night of the outing resounded with singing and merry-making with the videoke sing-along machine. The ladies enjoyed their bonding moments while preparing mouth-watering meals for the congregation while the men were deeply absorbed (and with occasional bursts of laughter) discussing different topics under the sun. The young people in the congregation had their share of fellowshipping as well.
Of course, the outing experience is incomplete without a dip in the warm waters of the pool. The kids and kids-at-heart alike enjoyed the temperate water by swimming, playing water games, and by simply splashing around the pool!
The outing also became much more memorable as two members were baptized by the pastor of the UCG Manila congregation, Mr. Epifanio Rey Evasco on the second day of the outing. The new members of the body of Christ are Ms. Leah Abigail Manumbas, a young lady and second-generation Christian from Bulacan, and Mr. Leo Larosa, a new member from Batangas. After the ceremonies, members who witnessed the baptism were quick to offer their warm and most sincere embraces to welcome and congratulate Abigail and Leo, further signifying that, indeed, we are members of one body with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as the Head.
Members started going home late afternoon of December 29 with full stomachs, cheerful hearts, rejuvenated spirits, and renewed ties. What a way to end the calendar year 2008 and start 2009. |
